Family and Divorce Law in Georgia: Compassionate Guidance
Navigating family law matters can be one of life’s most emotionally challenging experiences. At our firm, we approach every case with compassion, integrity, and a commitment to achieving fair and thoughtful resolutions. Whether you’re facing divorce, child custody disputes, alimony negotiations, or asset division, our experienced legal professionals are here to guide and advocate for you every step of the way.
A Focus on Resolution First
Before initiating divorce proceedings, we make every effort to help couples reconcile and preserve their families. In many cases, a peaceful resolution is possible, and we view that as the best outcome – especially when children are involved. If reconciliation is not an option, we strive to resolve matters amicably out of court. Our aim is to minimize conflict and reduce costs so that resources can be better directed toward the well-being of the children and the future of both parties.
When Divorce Becomes Inevitable
In situations where divorce is unavoidable – or when one party has valid grounds to end the marriage – we are fully prepared to represent our clients’ interests in court. Our team ensures that your rights are protected and your voice is heard throughout the legal process.
Divorce Procedures in Georgia
- Mutual Consent Divorce
If both spouses agree to divorce, the process can be completed without the need for personal court appearances. This can be done through a notarized and apostilled (or legalized) Power of Attorney (POA), which must be sent to us in original form. This streamlined approach saves time and reduces emotional and financial strain. - Contested Divorce
If one party does not agree to the divorce, court proceedings will be necessary.
- Without children or property disputes: The divorce process may take between 6 months and 1 year, though it can sometimes extend further.
- With children and/or property disputes: If an agreement cannot be reached, court proceedings can take 2–3 years or more, depending on the complexity of the case.
